I am a 27 year old male with no points on my licence, its been six years since any kind of accident, I have never been pulled over and given a ticket in my life. It seems that no matter what kind of car or what location Im in I can not get a good car insuarance rate. At one point I was paying over $4000 a year. I recently did an inquiry to see what it would cost to insure a 99 toyota tercell with an alarm, various anti-theft devices and in a state that is known for having lower cost insurance, plus it would only be for work and less than 10,000 miles a year in driving. I was quoted $209 a month! Other than one accident 6 years ago, I have a spotless driving record, why are my insurance costs so crazy?
Thanks for all the help everyone, but I forgot to mention that the $209 is just for liability with a $2000 deductible. This is with many different Ins companies. I think I am just unlucky.

The accident was the other guy’s fault (in California). The insurance company chose to “total it” and pay me, rather than have it fixed. But the price they are quoting me is very low, lower than Kelley Blue Book and lower than asking prices in local classifieds. They say they use their own program, but I can’t replace what I had with the amount they are offering. What rights do I have and is there anything I can do to get that offer up?

I did a little test to check quotes when it came to auto insurance through Progressive.

I found that I would pay less a month for choosing the option that I have had insurance for the past five years, but when I choose I haven’t had insurance it charges me more per month.

I technically have not had insurance before. My last vehicle was on my brothers insurance policy and I was listed as an Additional driver.

So should I choose that I haven’t been insured? I obviously wouldn’t drive without insurance, even though I do live in a state that does not require it – but I don’t want to give the notion that I have been either.

There’s not an option for new drivers who just didn’t have insurance because they never had a vehicle before.

So I am totally confused as to what option I should choose.

Thanks!

My 18-year-old son’s car insurance is going through the roof. It just jumped from $270 to $321/ month. He’s a college student living in Tampa, FL (40 miles from home address in Largo, fL), makes good grades, took driver’s ed in high school, has been driving 2 years and never had a ticket. It’s a new car (Mazda 3) that’s titled to my husband, but all 3 of us are on the policy. My husband and I are on a separate policy for our cars. Anyone have any suggestions on how to bring this number down?

My husband had 2 back-to-back accidents last year that were found to be the other driver’s fault and was paid 100% by the other driver’s insurance (including our deductible). Also, we had a claim on my son’s old car when someone hit it while it was legally parked on the street, and then ran. I had a quote of $261 from Traveler’s until they questioned these claims, then they bumped it to $331/ month. I guess they count against us, even though they weren’t our fault?

I am 20, female, in college, decent grades, this will be my first car, i will be driving a relatively cheap car. 199? Honda civic/accord…something along those lines. I live in a very small town. I will only be driving about 10 minutes a day commuting to work and school.
i wont be added to my parents policy, i will have my own.
I tried doing a free quote thing, but i guess my town is too small, it didn’t recognize my address! but from people who actually pay car insurance and know a think or two about it, i am curious as to how much i should expect it to be!

Hi everyone,
I’m planning to move from Canada to Ireland next year and I was wondering what would be an average cost for a basic car insurance? I have had a valid Canadian G2 license for about 3 years, as well as a Romanian (EU) full license for 8 years. I’m 26. The car would be a small car, and the region either Dublin or Cork.

I’m not looking for an exact quote, I’d just like to know what you are paying for your car and your experience, so to get an idea of what to expect.

Thanks.

I went onto farmers insurance because that is what my parents have. I’m 15 but I’m turning 16 next year and have heard some real horror stories about car insurance for teenagers. I just wanted to check how much it costs but farmers says i cant get a quote because thats only available for people 18-108. WHY!? Are there any other insurance companies out there that I CAN get a quote for or are there at least any other ways that I can find out how much it will cost?
