James B asked: Hi,
I’ve been with elephant.co.uk for 2 years and have just renewed my insurance for a further 10 months.
I am quite bad with my mail and hadn’t checked the renewal quote, so therefore I missed the 14 days period to cancel and it is now coming out of my account. I had already paid a months installment before checking the quote.
Fast forward today when I had checked and am totally surprised by the amount of the quote. After checking online on various sites I have been quoted far better deals for the same cover.
After speaking to elephant to cancel they have quoted me £187 just to cancel! This is £47 cancellation fee and the rest is for £2 everyday since the insurance started! I am shocked and appalled at this. Can they do this? Are they allowed? Having been a loyal customer for 2+ years cant they give me some sort of deal to cancel?! Elephant think not and will charge me the full amount to cancel
If I went with one of their sister companies who offered a cheaper quote they would waver the cancellation fee but still charge me the rest (£140)
I would appreciate any advice on how to deal with this because I am not happy with the service I am getting, and would not rate elephant at all! If I cancelled my direct debit through my bank what would happen? Could I do that?
Help!
Thanks :S
Ricky
