My husband and I have a joint policy with 2 cars. We were quoted at nearly the same amount each by the same carrier. In other words, 1 person 1 car for the same amount we are paying now for 2 people and 2 cars.

I have to say – this field is RIPE for a good consumer survey that gives some general ranges of insurance by state or region. Nearly everything online – (correction – EVERYthing) on line links to get quotes from insurers (commercial sites) . Fine, but suppose a kid is in the early stages of learning about cars and parents are new to the kid driver insurance game and they just want to get a feel for ranges of prices based on region, car type, first time driver, male/female, etc. Let’s assume a modest new car in the $25,000 new range and a responsible kid with middle income family – good insurance history. The new driver is added to current parent policies. Is the range $1000 to $3000? Or narrower … $1500 – $2500.

Okay, so I call my cat Flufferbottom as a little pet name (he’s a cute lil bugger), all right? Keep that in mind.

For my Business Concepts class, our teacher had us look up car insurance quotes, and make up our information. I guess she didn’t take into account that the insurance people would actually try and call us to give us the quotes, and I made up my name as Kevin Flufferbottom. So, I kid you not, at the end of the school day, I’m waiting for my “carpool buddy” to do a test, and one of the insurance people called me and personally referred to me as Kevin Flufferbottom.

I have no idea how she held in the laughter, but I was about to bust a gut, though I held it in and told her it was all for a school assignment and that I really wasn’t looking for car insurance. I didn’t tell her that my name really isn’t Kevin Flufferbottom, though. XD

What kind of car should I get?

amy m asked:

I love Mini Coopers but I don’t think I can afford to insure one. My insurance company quoted me at $250 per month for a Mini, while a Civic would only be $100!! What are some small, reliable, affordable cars I should look into?

L.C. M asked:

With economic troubles dominating the race, McCain opened the new line of criticism against Romney at his first event of the day in Fort Myers, Fla., and sought to shift the campaign back to his strength, national security, and away from Romney’s, the economy.

First, he slapped at Romney without naming him during a question-and-answer session with Floridians, saying: “Now, one of my opponents wanted to set a date for withdrawal that would have meant disaster.”

Minutes later to reporters, the Arizona senator was more direct: “If we surrender and wave a white flag, like Senator Clinton wants to do, and withdraw, as Governor Romney wanted to do, then there will be chaos, genocide, and the cost of American blood and treasure would be dramatically higher.”

Asked about the comment in Land O’ Lakes, Fla., Romney bristled.

“That’s dishonest, to say that I have a specific date. That’s simply wrong,” he said. “That is not the case. I’ve never said that.”

The former Massachusetts governor added: “I know he’s trying desperately to change the topic from the economy and trying to get back to Iraq, but to say something that’s not accurate is simply wrong — and he knows better.”

Later in Sun City, Fla., McCain stuck to his assessment and said: “The apology is owed to the young men and women serving this nation in uniform.”

He said he was quoting Romney as favoring a “timetable” for withdrawal and argued that he was not misquoting Romney, saying, “Clearly, the impression was that he was ready to set a date for withdrawal.”

But Romney quotes circulated by McCain’s campaign didn’t show Romney making that exact comment — nor did aides back up McCain’s earlier comment that suggested that Romney “wanted to set a date for withdrawal.”

In an interview with ABC News in 2007, Romney said: “There’s no question that the president and (Iraqi) Prime Minister al-Maliki have to have a series of timetables and milestones that they speak about. But those shouldn’t be for public pronouncement. You don’t want the enemy to understand how long they have to wait in the weeds until you’re going to be gone.”

While Romney has never set a public date for withdrawal, he has said that he agrees with Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, that U.S. troops could move to more of an oversight role in 2008.

McCain, for his part, has been a staunch supporter of the Iraq war and advocated more troops on the ground for years before Bush embraced that position last year and ramped up the number of U.S. forces in Iraq. The buildup helped curb violence in Iraq, and McCain has not been shy about claiming credit for the strategy’s success.

Romney aides labeled McCain’s charge “stunningly false,” while McCain aides portrayed his Iraq comments as part of a broader effort in the coming days to question Romney’s leadership, foreign policy experience and judgment.

A former venture capitalist and business consultant, Romney has spent the past week arguing that he is the Republican best able to right a troubled economy, given his 25-year record in the private sector. He’s argued that McCain, who has spent much of his life in the military and in Congress, doesn’t have the qualifications necessary to lead the country out of a potential recession.

McCain, in turn, has sought to beat back Romney on the issue by arguing that a president needs to be ready to lead and qualified on both national security and economics, and he offers both — despite having previously acknowledged that the economy is not his strongest suit.

He also sought to rebut Romney’s criticisms in an unusual fashion: he dispatched high-profile surrogates to talk with the press corps traveling with the former governor. Among them: former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge and former Massachusetts Gov. Jane Swift. She boarded the Romney press bus to repeat similar criticisms to reporters.

Stefan H asked:

I just recently switched car insurances and I was quoted a pretty good deal by Farmers. Now I find out that they raised my premium because my “Driver Safety Level” changed. The only explanation I have would be that I have points with the DMV for traffic infractions. The problem is that I never had an accident and only one traffic infraction that should have been cleared up by going to traffic school.

Is there a way I can find out how many “points” I have accumulated with the DMV and for what reasons? Any online option?

Should I lie and tell the insurance company it just happened once I renew my insurance?
. I wanted to wait until renewal because then the insurance company will have a locked in rate for my insurance until the next renewal and since there are no accidents prior my rate will be lower for another year, But I also worry that if I wait 2-3 days after renewal they will think something’s up and get me with insurance fraud or something…..since I have already been to 1 local business to get a repair quote

Scion tc 2005 breach of contract?

Josh E asked:

Ok we bought our car used about 5 months ago from the toyota dealership. A 2005 scion tc with 48,000 miles, manual transmission for 14,200 dollars. Which i thought that was a good deal. As we were signing papers i asked for a carfax but never recieved one. Just slipped my mind. But in the contract there is a part where the dealer had to sign stating that the Dealership or the dealer has no acknowledgment about the car ever being in a wreck. we also have the 100,000 mile warranty. Anyways. we bought the car and have not had any problems with it. We love it. But as i was looking for new car insurance quotes last week i had to read off the vin and i was told by multiple insurance companies that my car was in a wreck 7 months ago. that the damage was around 2,000 dollars. The car 7 months ago was on the car lot. Is there anything i can do about this?” i have not contacted them yet. But it does upset me a little bit knowing this. just let me know what you think please. thanks
i have had insurance. i was looking for better quotes. the warranty doesnt cover everything and a vehicle is never the same after it is wrecked
and on top of that … what about my resale value? when i try to sell the car when people know that it has been in a wreck even with a clean title it will still make a difference. right?
let me make it clear… i have had car insurance since day one. looking for cheaper rates.
the wreck took place after it was traded in on the lot. the dealership knew about this
