Josh E asked:
Ok we bought our car used about 5 months ago from the toyota dealership. A 2005 scion tc with 48,000 miles, manual transmission for 14,200 dollars. Which i thought that was a good deal. As we were signing papers i asked for a carfax but never recieved one. Just slipped my mind. But in the contract there is a part where the dealer had to sign stating that the Dealership or the dealer has no acknowledgment about the car ever being in a wreck. we also have the 100,000 mile warranty. Anyways. we bought the car and have not had any problems with it. We love it. But as i was looking for new car insurance quotes last week i had to read off the vin and i was told by multiple insurance companies that my car was in a wreck 7 months ago. that the damage was around 2,000 dollars. The car 7 months ago was on the car lot. Is there anything i can do about this?” i have not contacted them yet. But it does upset me a little bit knowing this. just let me know what you think please. thanks
i have had insurance. i was looking for better quotes. the warranty doesnt cover everything and a vehicle is never the same after it is wrecked
and on top of that … what about my resale value? when i try to sell the car when people know that it has been in a wreck even with a clean title it will still make a difference. right?
let me make it clear… i have had car insurance since day one. looking for cheaper rates.
the wreck took place after it was traded in on the lot. the dealership knew about this

And what is the problem? Does it have a salvage title? Probably not, or you would have seen that before you bought it. You got a good deal, it’s under a good warranty, and if indeed it was wrecked, it’s obviously been fixed to where you never noticed it. As long as any damage was repaired to good as new condition, why would it bother you?

it took you this long to get insurance? you got 2 paths to choose from 1. choose to return the car and you better demand retribution from the dealer for not checking up on the carfax data, i mean hey if you really did ask for one and it slipped your mind they should have replied with it. if you really want to stick it to them, complain to the owner of that place, 9 out of 10 times they will resolve the problem to your advantage! i seen people get free repairs because the manager doesn’t want to deal with confrontations! make a scene when other customers are around . complain about “what if’s” like what if i gotten in a accident because the car tore apart when you went over a speed bump at the mall. you get the ideal. 2 demand all your money back for them selling you a wreck.

You got hosed on that price. For about $3-4k more you can buy a new one with the options you wanted. Those cars do have high resale and since new ones are no haggle dealers make money on the used ones and not so much for new ones.
You didn’t get insurance for 7 months? You may be out of luck for the wreck but since its not a salvage title and you have an extended warranty your car should be fine. $2k in damage is nothing more than a bump in a modern car with all those crumple zones.
masaomo – The dealer isn’t going to help you out now that its 7 months later.

2,000 dollars in damage is very minor. A new bumper cover and paint is 1,800 dollars.

If it was that important to you – you should not have let it “slip your mind”. Dealers are not neccessarily bound to research every car. if the car looks ok – they probably are NOT going to go looking for problems. The above poster is correct $2000 is NOT much damage – probably only cosmetic – or a bumper as he suggests. My little car got sandwiched – rear ended and squashed into a truck in front. $2000 front and $2000 rear just to fix the bumpers, and it hasn’t really hurt the car any. Another thing – don’t take Carfax as gospel. there are lots of ways to get a car repaired and not have it show up.

Yes is the answer to breach of contract if the dealer did not tell you car was in wreck, 2000 dollars is a substantial amount on a car that goes for 20, 000 new . when you go to trade it in the value of trade i is diminished by fact car was in accident. i would contact lawyer to negotiate as the dealer you are working with sounds like a slime ball .The reason it was a good deal is because the dealer knew he had damaged goods. what was blue book on car ? how much under blue book did you buy it for? if it was a lot he knew he was hosing you
