What repairs will my car insurance cover?

Liability just covers the other person in a accident. It will not cover any repair on your vehicle. You would need full coverage for that and would still have to pay a deductable of usually 500 or 1000 dollars.

If all you have is liability insurance than the only thing it will cover is the other vehicle, person or property damage. Your vehicle is not covered. You insurance is issued on you as a driver and not your vehicle. I you want your vehicle covered you will need to purchase comprehensive insurance. Now if some one hits you and it is declared that the other individual is at fault than their insurance will repair your vehicle or give you what the blue book (Nada) said it is worth. If you paid $5,000.00 for the car but the blue book indicate the vehicle is only worth $100.00 than you will receive $100.00 and that it. Also; if you have not purchased uninsured or under insured insurance rider than if some one hits you who does not have insurance you get nothing but a junk vehicle that you will have to pay a tow truck to haul away. Better talk with your insurance agent and make sure you get something that will cover you and the vehicle if your vehicle is worth anything.

You are confused – there are two types of insurance: collision and mechanical aka Extended Warranty. The first one (your case) – by definition – is related to accidents only, and as somebody else already explained will not cover YOUR damages because it’s a “one-way” liability only. It will cover damages CAUSED by you to others but not damges to your vehicle if the accident is your fault. If the other party caused damage to your vehicle, their insurance will pay for your damages.

Liability isn’t going to cover any damages to your vehicle. You would need full coverage (comprehensive and collision) to pay for damages to your vehicle. Any existing damage to your vehicle before you bought it is NEVER covered. You can’t buy coverage for something that is already damaged.

Liability insurance is for damage you do to others, not for your property. Even if you had full collision and comprehensive, it would not cover any damage to a vehicle that existed before the policy was put in place. Insurance is not a repair and maintenance plan.

Nope, liability is only for damage you cause someone else and their vehicle. Bascially, it helps protect you from being sued.
Most insurance that I know of only insures risks that are sudden and accidental.
Maintanence is not a part of insurance, that would be a warranty.

You car is insured only for liability, that means, if you get in a wreck, your insurance will cover the other guys injuries, but nothing on you or your car. In order to have insurance that covers your car for repairs stemming from an auto accident, you will need to carry comp/collision, or full coverage as some people say. This is more costly than liability, normally if your car is ten yrs old, you just need liability, the premium for the higher coverage wouldn’t be worth it.
