I’m currently expecting approximately $800.00 for a car rental reimbursement due to a car accident. Since then, my insurance rates have gone up about $60.00 more. I got a quote from progressive for $160.00 less than what I am paying right now. If I were to switch insurance companies, will I lose my claim?

I don’t think so because you were insured under their policy at the time and you have a written agreement (the policy) which states what your company will pay. Changing insurance companies shouldn’t have any bearing on your claim for car rental reimbursement.

no you still have a claim against your old company your policy is “occurrence” based. Meaning the date whenever you have a covered loss “the accident” determine which policy will respond. As a FYI most insurers have a daily limit and a aggregate limit cap – such as $30/day up to $800 max

No, when an accident or other loss happen during your policy period the company is required (by law) to cover your claim – especially since it was already placed. They might have questioned it if you had canceled and then tried to go back and put in the claim, then you’d need to have some proof it happened during the time they were covering you.
I would try another time or 2 getting the quotes from Progressive, I’ve known a few people who got quotes from them and they changed several times or they spiked at the first renewal – just a little FYI I have from my friends!

No. The company you were insured with at the time of the accident is liable even if you later cancel their coverage

There are tons of places where you can get a free insurance quote. It only takes roughly 10 minutes to do.
